Fingerprints on iPhone Envelope Reveal Suspect in 2-Year-Old Burglary

A 20-year-old has been arrested for allegedly burglarizing a South Austin home in 2013.

A suspect was named for a burglary that took place in South Austin about two years ago after police found fingerprints on an iPhone envelope from the crime scene.

Police believe Tyrone Swist, 20, participated in the Sept. 15, 2013, burglary, they said. The homeowner said the day of the incident he left his home to go shopping at Lakeline Mall, and discovered his home had been burglarized upon returning.

He noticed a window screen had been knocked into his backyard, and the glass had been broken in his second-floor patio door. Two iPads, two laptops, a silver rolex, and two 2-gauge shotguns were found to be missing from the home.

A neighbor told police they saw three young men walking along the curb outside of the home, and they appeared suspicious because they were spaced about 15 feet apart and looking around. Two other neighbors also said they saw three young males outside of the home that day.

On Nov. 19 of this year, Austin Police Department’s forensics department found Swist’s fingerprints on an iPhone envelope that was in the home at the time of the burglary.
