Fire Displaces South Austin Family Days Before Christmas
Fire officials said an electrical short sparked the blaze that totally destroyed home at 1212 Begonia Terrace Tuesday night.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Six days before Christmas, a South Austin family has been displaced from their home following a Tuesday night fire.
Fire engulfed a home at 1212 Begonia Terrace Tuesday night just before 9 p.m. near Riverside Drive. Although firefighters make quick work of the blaze, the home suffered what fire officials called "significant damage."
The family comprising three adults and as many children were not at home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. Four family dogs also escaped unharmed.

Fire investigators say the fire was sparked by an electrical shortage. The home was declared a total loss, with estimated damage to the structure and its contents placed at $150,000. The American Red Cross has stepped up to assist the family find temporary lodging, fire officials said.
