Firefighters Battle Fire At South Austin Salvage Yard

Some vehicles and a roof were damaged during the blaze, but no injuries were reported.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Austin Fire Department crews battled a fire on Wednesday at a used auto parts store in South Austin.

Fire officials updated the public on the fire via Twitter. The fire erupted at the LKQ Pick Your Part located at the 7900 block of South Congress Avenue, some two miles south of William Cannon Road.

"Heavy black smoke and fire from LKQ Pick Your Part," officials wrote in an afternoon tweet sent out about 3 p.m. "Fire attack in progress."

Two hours later, the fire was extinguished: "Fire under control," AFD officials tweeted. "Fire heavily damaged several vehicles and the roof covering a work area."

Thankfully, AFD officials said no injuries were reported.

There was no immediate word on what may have caused the fire or the monetary loss incurred by the conflagration.
