Former Travis County Corrections Officer Indicted Over Jail Cell Fire Incident

Dustin D'Amalfi accused of participating in an incident where chemical agent was used, mattress set afire in removing prisoner from cell.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- A grand jury indicted a former Travis County corrections officer who resigned for his connection involving a jail cell fire, according to a published report on Thursday.

The Travis County grand jury indicted Dustin D'Amalfi on charges of tampering with physical evidence and false report to a peace officer stemming from the July 25 incident, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The incident took place at the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle.

D'Amalfi was among a group of Travis County corrections officers accused of improper use of a chemical agent to remove inmate Dacious Parker from his cell, according to the report. They proceeded to set a mattress on fire, injuring the inmate in the process, the newspaper reported.

Records indicate D'Amalfi subsequently resigned from his job in August 2015.

According to the DA's office, tampering with physical evidence is a third-degree felony punishable with up to ten years' imprisonment. The false report charge is a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail.
