Former UT-Austin Longhorn Ricky Williams Arrested In South Austin

Heisman Trophy award winner was stopped on Manchaca Road at Ben White Boulevard for traffic offense and arrested for warrants.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX β€” Ricky Williamsβ€”former Lonhorn and Heisman Trophy award winnerβ€”was arrested in South Austin on Tuesday on traffic warrants, according to reports.

Williams was pulled over by police for a traffic offense on Manchaca Road at Ben White Boulevard before being placed under arrest for outstanding warrants, KXAN and other media outlets reported. After paying fines, he was released at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the news station reported.

Williams (whose real name is Errick Lynne Williams Jr.), 40, spent 12 seasons in the NFL after he was selected fifth overall in the 1999 draft out of the University of Texas. He also played one season in the Canadian Football League. He currently works as an analyst for ESPN's Longhorn Network.

This isn't the first brush with the law for the two-time All-American. Earlier this year, Williams claimed to have been racially profiled while walking through a neighborhood in Tyler, Texas. In that incident, he was stopped and searched by police after a man calling 911 said he was crouching down behind his wire fence, as Sporting News and numerous other media outlets reported at the time.

And in 1999, Williams was booked into Travis County Jailwhen he played with the New Orleans Saints after refusing to sign a traffic ticket, as CBS News and various news outlets reported then.
