Launch Of LGBTQ Studies Program Celebrated At UT Symposium

UT Women's & Gender Studies department welcomes the public to this free event that will outline the impact and direction of the program.

AUSTIN, TX -- The University of Texas at Austin, Women's & Gender Studies will host "Queer Camaraderie: A Symposium to Launch LGBTQ Studies at UT" on Thursday, Jan. 25 beginning at 6 PM and on Friday, Jan. 26 beginning at 6 PM.

Thursday's event will feature a reception and opening remarks, as well as participation from Kim TallBear, The Critical Polyamorist 100's; La Chica Boom and Laura Gutiérrez, Flesh: A Performance Lecture and Conversation.

Friday's event will include breakfast with a political feelings discussion; Ernesto Martínez (with Julie Minich and Karma Chavez, Queer Arousals in Context of Racialized Harm; Josh Guzmán and Chad Bennett, Queer Awkwardness; Rod Ferguson (with Lyndon Gill and Omi Tinsley), The Bookshop of Black Queer Diaspora; Kim TallBear (with Ann Cvetkovich), Tipi Confessions: A Research-Creation Laboratory; and a concluding discussion on pedagogy, politics, and institutions. There will also be lunch with small group discussions.
