Man Arrested After South Austin Bus Stop Attack On 2 Men, One In Wheelchair

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — A man was jailed early Sunday after police said he attacked a man in a wheelchair before stabbing another who tried to rush to the victim's aid, according to a newly released affidavit.

According to a police investigation, David Baker, 35, was sitting at a bus stop at the corner of Menchaca and Fort View roads at around midnight with a pair of men he knew, the Austin American-Statesman reported. One of the two men was in an electric wheelchair, according to the report.

The trio were drinking was when Baker became upset with the wheelchair-bound man and started to kick his wheelchair, according to the report. Baker pursued his victim as the disabled man tried to escape, pulling out a pocket knife in the process, the account reads.

When the second man tried to come to the aid of the man in the wheelchair, Baker is said to have knifed him.

Baker was later found and arrested along the 4400 block of South Lamar Boulevard, about a half-mile from the incident. Both victims identified him as their attacker, and he was booked into the Travis County Jail with an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. His bail is $75,000.
