Man Found Dead In S. Austin Home After SWAT Standoff

Police rushed to 3000 block of Fontana Drive around 4 p.m. to find badly injured woman outside home and dead man who had barricaded himself.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police are investigating a suspicious death of a man that had barricaded himself in a home during an hours-long standoff with officers.

The incident occurred Monday at around 4 p.m. along the 3000 block of Fontana Drive off South Congress Avenue. In a subsequent news conference with reporters, officer Bibo Cadenas said police had initially responded amid reports of an injured woman at the scene who was found with serious injuries to her face and head. The 55-year-old was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries not expected to be life-threatening.

Officials later learned the victim's roommate may have caused the injuries, prompting police to dispatch a SWAT tactical team to lure the man from inside their home. Cadenas said a robot device was employed to breach the door of the home, later revealing video from inside the dwelling showing the man dead from obvious trauma throughout his body.
