Man Shot Dead After Robbery In Southeast Austin
Police found the man in his 40s bleeding profusely before dying just before 3 a.m. on Saturday.

AUSTIN, TX — A man was found dead of a gunshot wound early Saturday morning in the southeast portion of the county, police confirmed.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at 6950 South U.S. Highway 183. Upon arrival, they found a Hispanic male in his 40s suffering significant blood loss and began life-saving measures until medics arrived on scene. Austin-Travis County EMS medics took over with CPR, but the man was pronounced dead just before 3 a.m.
A subsequent investigation revealed that a group of men who had been inside a building next to Plaza de Mexico were robbed by several suspects. Minutes following the robbery, the deceased man was found outside the building in distress. A witness dialed 911 to report shots fired.

An autopsy by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the man had been shot, officials said. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
The sheriff's office urges anyone with information related to this incident to notify them by calling Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.

This is the first homicide of 2017 for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, officials noted.
