Man Shot Dead In South Austin Early Sunday Amid Halloween Partying

Police responding to shots fire in the 1200 block of Armadillo Road found a man dead and another injured early Sunday morning.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police said a man was fatally shot early Sunday morning in a suspected drive-by shooting in South Austin.

Austin Police Department David Daniels of the public information office told reporters early Sunday the incident occurred at 12:55 a.m. in the 1200 block of Armadillo Road. Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of shots being fired.

Upon arrival, police found a male victim with obvious trauma throughout his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another male victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Daniels said.

The ages of the victims weren't disclosed. Names of the deceased victim likely will be made public later, pending notification of his family.

The spokesman said it appears there was an altercation among a group of people ahead of the shooting. While the incident didn't occur at a party, Daniels said there were Halloween-related parties occurring that night, suggesting there were many individuals outdoors when the shooting occurred.

Homicide detectives spent the early part of Sunday morning investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses, Daniels said. Police urge anyone with information that might be pertinent to the case to call the Homicide Tip Line at (512) 472-TIPS.

The killing was the 29th homicide in Austin so far this year, Daniels noted.
