Man's South Austin Death Ruled A Homicide (Video)

Dunieski Castillo-Leyva, 43, was found dead inside his pickup truck with a gunshot wound early Sunday in South Austin.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — The death of a man in South Austin early Sunday morning has been ruled a homicide as a result of a gunshot wound, police said on Monday.

Police responded to 2501 Anken Dr. at around 1:12 a.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, law enforcement officials found Dunieski Castillo-Leyva, 43, in his pickup truck with obvious signs of trauma to his body. He was pronounced dead just before 1:30 a.m., police said.

A subsequent autopsy by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office determined the cause of death was from a gunshot wound and the manner of death a homicide, police said. Police said homicide detectives are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads, although no arrests have yet been made.

Based on information currently available, police said they don't believe the public is at risk in relation to this incident. When police use this verbiage, it typically means that the victim and perpetrator knew each other, the violence limited to their interaction.
