St. Edward's University Building Evacuated Amid Unknown Substance

Austin-Travis County EMS officials said 2 people were medically assessed following exposure to an unidentified substance late Tuesday.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Emergency personnel descended to St. Edward's University on Tuesday night amid reports of people having been exposed to an unknown substance that led to an evacuation.

Multiple emergency officials arrived at the campus on 3001 S. Congress Ave. just after 10:30 p.m., according to an Austin-Travis County EMS tweet. Medics said two patients were being evaluated for injuries. In an 11 p.m. update, medics said the university's science building was being evacuated as emergency personnel gained access to it.

In their final update for the night at around 11:35 p.m., medics said an investigation into the unknown substance continues by the Austin Fire Department. Medics added the two patients who were evaluated did not require hospital transport.
