More Details Emerge From South Austin Stabbing Incident Implicating Teen

Police say Brandon Trybendis, 17, stabbed his mother's girlfriend after the couple got into a violent confrontation.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police have released more details related to the arrest of a teenager who stabbed his mother's boyfriend during a domestic dispute in South Austin this weekend.

According to an arrest affidavit referenced by CBS Austin, Brandon Trybendis, 17, was charged with aggravated assault (family violence), a first-degree felony.

The charge stems from a dispute in the 6300 block of Smith Oak Trail at around 9 p.m. Citing court documents, the news station reported that teen's mother and her boyfriend got into an argument. According to police, the boy's mother said "...maybe I should just shoot myself," to which the boyfriend responded "I'll just take care of it," before grabbing a shotgun.

As the couple struggled with the weapon, the teen rushed to his mother's defense. According to court documents, the man proceed to choke both mother and son during the fight while Trybendis's brother grabbed the shotgun to hide it.

The family attempted to leave in a car, but the man continued to assault them, the news station reported. When the man began to assault Trybendis's brother in the passenger seat of the vehicle, the teenager stabbed him in the back several times, the television reported.

The man staggered back to the house and collapsed, according to police. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of critical, life-threatening injuries, police said. Although the boy was defending his mother and brother, court documents indicate Trybendis used "unreasonable force," according to the report.
