New Futuristic Ambulances Coming to Austin

The ambulances are expected to arrive in about two week.

Austin-Travis county ambulances have been redesigned to be safer and more efficient for patients and attendants who ride in them.

Five city units and two county units are on their way and expected to arrive in about two weeks, co-designer Scott Anderson wrote in a news release.

“When I was a flight paramedic in a helicopter, I was able to do all the patient care without getting out of my seat belt or seat. Why then, can’t that be done on a ground ambulance?” he wrote, in reference to the thought process that went into the new design.

Along with almost uncountable new safety and efficiency features, the designers have completely removed the bench seat concept from the patient compartment.

The outdated seat was replaced with an attendant seat that can move and swivel with lever controls. This will allow attendants to administer complete patient care without unbuckling their seatbelts.

The ambulance patient compartment is made entirely of aluminum making it much sturdier in the case of a collision. The new composition has a double advantage because it is also much cheaper to make.

Other new safety features include added cameras, scene lights, and 360-degree increased night time visibility.

The new design is groundbreaking and could help shape the future of ambulance design.

“Interestingly enough, other departments have designed similar builds, but not to this extreme. We have numerous departments currently looking at our new design . One of our units will be on display at the Texas EMS Conference in Dallas,” Anderson wrote.
