New Traffic Signal At Slaughter, Alice Mae Lanes Among South Austin Safety Improvements

Part of the 2016 Mobility Bond, the signal is just a small cog of enhancements designed to curb traffic fatalities in the area.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — A new traffic signal has been installed at Slaughter and Alice Mae lanes near Southpark Meadows as part of a larger project aimed at improving safety in the area, city officials said.

Details of the plan were posted by city officials on the municipal website. The new traffic signal is located just west of South 1st Street. Additionally, the city's transportation department plans to launch the next phase of the project at Slaughter Lane and South First Street in early 2018 with scheduled completion by summer of next year.

The bond-financed program is among the city's priorities for safety enhancements aimed at reducing traffic fatalities. Up to 18 intersections are being targeted for improvements as part of the Slaughter Lane at South 1st Street project, with a $15 million expenditure earmarked for the various projects.
