One Dead, Another Critically Injured In Fiery South Austin Crash

Vehicle bursts into flames in wreck that occurred just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Texas 71 East, near the airport.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — A person was killed and another sustained serious injuries in a fiery rollover crash early Saturday in South Austin, medics said.

Via Twitter, Austin-Travis County EMS medics said the wreck occurred just before 1:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Texas 71 East, near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

It's unclear what caused the crash that caused one of the vehicles to burst into flames. One adult victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another male victim was rushed to St. David's South Austin Medical Center with serious injuries deemed potentially life-threatening.

Motorists are advised that an investigation into the crash continued into mid-morning, and traffic delays are possible. Those using the affected roadway to reach the airport might want to find alternative routes in reaching their destination.
