Otoko: Austin's Tiny Soon-To-Be Restaurant Already Receiving Recognition
The restaurant will only have 12 seats and will serve Tokyo-style sushi and Kyoto-style seasonal kaisek.

Famed chef Paul Qui will be opening the tiny but highly anticipated new restaurant Otoko in South Austin this January, and the venture is already receiving significant recognition.
Food & Wine Magazine recently wrote up the soon-to-be-restaurant in its list titled, “Why You Should Try One of These Awesome, Exclusive, Super-Tiny Restaurants.”
Chef Qui is the owner of two Austin food trucks: Qui Restaurant and East Side King, according to the Bravo Network. He also won Top Chef season 9 and is a recipient of the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: Southwest 2012. He is known for his “Japanese dishes with an eye towards local flavor,” with influences from South East Asian and European cuisine.

According to Eater, the restaurant will serve “Tokyo-style sushi and Kyoto-style seasonal kaiseki,” mixing raw sushi and cooked dishes. Otoko will likely use a ticketing system for reservations and charge about $150 for a meal.
The restaurant, which will be located in the South Congress Hotel at 1603 S Congress Ave., it will be counter-only and have 12 seats.
