Personal Patient Data From Medical Center In Austin Inadvertently Leaked Online
Information related to some 2,000 patients at Victory Medical Center potentially compromised after breach.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX β Medical information of some 2,000 patients of a South Austin medical clinic has potentially been compromised after being leaked online, officials said Monday.
Referencing a press release, the Austin American-Statesman reported that patient records at Victory Medical Centerβaddresses, dates of birth, email addresses, medical account numbers, names, phone numbers, preferred language and race/ethnicityβwere disclosed, medical center officials said. Victory Medical Center has two locations at 3811 Bee Cave Road in Westlake and 4303 Victory Drive in South Austin.
βThe data elements disclosed were demographic in nature and generally available via routine web and directory searches,β Victory Medical Center said in a prepared statement. βThey did not include sensitive information that could be easily used to create unauthorized accounts or otherwise impair you or your privacy. Therefore, we believe the risk to you of any improper use is low. Nevertheless, we recommend that you carefully review your bank and credit card statements for irregularities.β

Officials said they discovered the breach on April 5 after a patient reported having seen personal information online and alerting the medical center. The report was removed from online some five days after the report was made, officials said. After an analysis, officials estimated the breach occurred as early as June 2013.
