Phoenix House Unveils Major Renovations To Drug Treatment Facility Catering To Teens
Recording music studio, enlarged kitchen and fitness center added to make campus more comfortable for kids battling substance abuse.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Officials at the Phoenix House in South Austin—a campus providing a comfortable environment for teenagers fighting drug addiction—on Thursday evening will unveil a renovated center with expanded amenities, including a recording music studio, enlarged kitchen and fitness center.
The enhancements mark the most substantial revamping for the nonprofit center that has been in existence for 16 years. The changes are intended to heighten the comfort level at the center in helping teens overcome drug and substance abuse issues.

- Brand-new music studio: "Knowing the positive impact producing music has had in their patients’ lives, Phoenix House expanded its recording studio,' officials said. "A number of local and well-known musicians, including American Idol’s judge, Kara DioGuardi, have donated money to the music program over the years."
- Expanded kitchen: 'The new kitchen accommodates for healthier food choices, which are a key component for long term recovery," Phoenix House officials explained. "Along with a new kitchen director, who has a background in nutrition and dietetics, cooking classes and a garden club have been incorporated."
- Fitness Center: "Treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and weight machines, among others, are available to every patient."
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facilities, learn more about Phoenix House’s 12-step wellness program and the holistic approach to treat substance abuse and mental health issues, according to the facility's operators. In addition, those attending will be able to learn more about the upcoming summer programming where patients attend summer school in the morning and engage in offsite activities in the afternoon.
The event is scheduled May 25 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Phoenix House Austin, 400 Live Oak St.

Phoenix House Austin is a residential high school where teens can attend classes during the day and get treatment for their drug addiction at night. The facility offers services for teen boys and girls ages 13 – 17 who struggle with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health problems. Phoenix House offers services all year long.
