Police ID Driver In Fatal South Austin Two-Vehicle Accident

Anael Alfredo Contreras Vasquez, 37, died after another car hit the passengers's side of his car following failure to yield at stop sign.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the driver killed last Friday in South Austin.

The driver was IDed as Anael Alfredo Contreras Vasquez, 37. A preliminary police investigation found that a Honda Accord was traveling traveling eastbound on Burleson Road in the inside lane.shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while another car, a Toyota Corolla, was traveling northbound on Felter Lane at the same time.

Police said Vasquez failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign while turning west onto Burleson Road, resulting in the Honda slamming into the drives's side of the car Vasquez was driving.

Vasquez was rushed to St. David's South Austin Hospital for treatment of his injuries, but he died just after 7:30 p.m. Police continue their investigation into the matter, urging those with information to contact them by calling (512) 974-4424.
