Police ID Driver, Passenger Killed In South Austin Crash

Garrett Davis, 27, tried turning into apartments without yielding right of way, and was killed along with his passenger as a result.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS β€” Police on Wednesday identified the driver and passenger killed in a wreck the night before in South Austin.

According to a preliminary police investigation, Garrett Davis, 27, was driving a 2017 Subaru Forester eastbound along the 500 block of East Slaughter Lane at 10 p.m. on Tuesday when he tried turning left before colliding with a 1996 Chevrolet truck traveling westbound. Police said Davis was attempting to enter an apartment complex on the south side of the road at 517 E. Slaughter Lane while failing to yield the right of way.

The truck collided with the Forester as a result, killing both Garrett and his passenger, Keaton Carmley, 27. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, police said, and there were no other occupants in his vehicle at the time of the collision. All parties involved were wearing their seat belts, police said, and no charges are expected to be filed against the truck driver.

The incident was Austin’s 15th fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 15 fatalities this year. At this time year, police added, there were 15 fatal traffic crashes and 16 traffic fatalities.
