Police ID Man Who Died In Multi-Vehicle Wreck In Southwest Austin

Michael Thomas Sullivan, 69, succumbed to his injuries one week after his vehicle was struck from behind at the U.S. 290/MoPac intersection.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police identified the motorist who died in a crash involving multiple vehicles last week in Southwest Austin.

Michael Thomas Sullivan, 69, succumbed to his injuries at St. David's South Austin Medical Center, where he had been transported for treatment of his injuries. The man was involved in a multi-car accident on the northbound ramp of U.S. 290 West/MoPac Expressway intersection when an SUV struck his vehicle from behind. The crash caused a chain reaction, with another vehicle involved.

The incident occurred Oct. 13 close to 8:30 a.m.

Police said an investigation into the crash continues, and ask anyone with information to call them at (512) 974-4424 or by submitting tips through the free Austin police mobile app, Austin PD, for iPhone and Android devices.

The man's death represented the 57th traffic fatality in Austin so far this year. Last year at this time, there were 82 traffic fatalities in the city.
