Police ID Motorcyclist Killed In South Austin Crash

Brandon Thomas Buentello, 26, was killed after a Prius turned in front of it along the 7600 block of Bluff Springs Rd.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Wednesday identified the motorcyclist who was killed in South Austin this week.

According to a preliminary police investigation, Brandon Thomas Buentello, 26, was traveling southbound along the 7600 block of Bluff Springs Rd. on a white, 1999 Honda motorcycle when a blue, 2012 Toyota Prius turned in front of it. The Prius was traveling northbound on Bluff Springs Road before attempting to turn left into a convenience store parking lot, police said in a press advisry.

After the collision, Buentello was rushed to St. David's South Austin Hospital where he later died of his injuries, police said. No charges are pending against the driver of the Prius, police added.

The incident marked the 34th fatal traffic crash of 2018 in Austin, resulting in 35 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 32 fatal traffic crashes and 34 traffic fatalities, police said.
