Police ID Motorcyclist Who Died After Wiping Out On Interstate 35 Near Buda

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the motorcyclist killed after leaving the roadway along Interstate 35 last Friday.

Michael Wayne Smith, 39, was killed after leaving the roadway along the 13700 block of South Interstate 35 service road. After leaving the road, the motorcyclist re-entered the street before wiping out and separating from the bike. He was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m.

Police said Smith was intoxicated at the time of the wreck.

The collision represents Austin’s 62nd fatal traffic crash and the 63rd fatality of 2016. At this time in 2015, there were 86 traffic fatalities in Austin, police said.
