Police ID Motorist Shot After Recklessly Driving In South Austin Neighborhood

Jacob Camacho, 20, was shot after witnesses said he ran over several parked cars and a pedestrian on Sunday morning.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Austin this week identified a man who witnessed said crashed his car into other vehicles and a pedestrian before being found dead of gunshot wounds in South Austin.

The grisly case began on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 12:55 a.m. when police responded to the 1200 block of Armadillo Road. Officers made the scene after reports of shots having been fired.

Witnesses described a white vehicle driving up and down the street at a high rate of speed. On one pass, the car hit several cars parked along the street and hit a pedestrian before driving toward a crowd and crashing into a tree.

The car's occupants, including the driver, exited the vehicle while attempting to flee the scene, police said in a news advisory. The pedestrian who was hit was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, on the other hand was found in the roadway with apparent gunshot wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was identified as Jacob Camacho, 20.

Camacho's death was subsequently ruled a homicide.
