Police ID Motorist Who Died After Speeding In South Austin

Police said Kris Antony Lugo, 29, was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control and sent the vehicle into a rollover.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the driver who was killed following a rollover accident in South Austin over the weekend.

Police said Kris Anthony Lugo, 29, died after driving at a high rate of speed along the 4500 block of William Cannon Drive on April 29 just before 4 p.m. Lugo was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado when he lost control,causing the vehicle to roll and come to rest upside down, police said.

Lugo was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said alcohol is suspected to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Three occupants in the vehicle were uninjured.

The collision marked Austin’s 24th fatal traffic crash of 2017. At this time in 2016, there were 21 fatal traffic crashes and 21 traffic fatalities.
