Police ID Pedestrian Killed In South Austin Last Week

Curtis Thomas Grace, 53, was killed while using crosswalk at Little Texas Lane and South Congress on Dec. 21.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed in South Austin last week.

Killed while traveling west on Little Texas Lane at South Congress Avenue on Dec. 21 was Curtis Thomas Grace, 53. The incident occurred ten minutes after 4 p.m.

According to a preliminary police investigation, a white 2006 Toyota Prius was traveling west on Little Texas Lane before turning southbound onto South Congress Avenue. Although Grace was using a crosswalk with a walk signal, he was struck onto South Congress Avenue, police said in a news release.

The victim was rushed to South Austin Hospital but died a short time later.

Police didn't indicate what, if any, charges would be filed against the driver who struck Grace.

The incident marked Austin’s 75th fatal traffic crash and the 77th fatality of 2016, police noted. At this time in 2015, there were 95 traffic fatalities in Austin, they added.
