Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed Along MoPac

Aaron Ross Weir, 27, was standing in the roadway along 11300 block of Loop 1 when he was hit by a car just past 12:30 a.m., officials said.

AUSTIN, TEXAS β€” Police on Wednesday identified the pedestrian killed earlier last week while standing on a roadway just past midnight.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 3 along the 11300 block of North MoPac southbound. There, Aaron Ross Weir, 27, was standing in the roadway when a silver, 2014 Nissan traveling southbound struck him, police said.

Weir was rushed to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries at 3:35 a.m. Police noted the driver of the Nissan stayed at the scene awaiting for police to cooperate in their investigation. Intoxication or other impairment were not suspected as factors leading to the collision, police said, and no charges against the driver are expected to be filed.

The incident marked Austin’s 64th fatal traffic crash of 2018, police said, resulting in 65 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, officials added, there were 56 fatal traffic crashes and 58 traffic fatalities.

It was also the second pedestrian death in as many days. On Nov. 2, an unidentified 68-year-old black woman was struck by a car along the 6200 block of Manchaca Road just before 7:30 a.m. A preliminary police investigation shows that the woman was crossing Manchaca Road from a bus stop when she was struck by a white, 2014 Nissan that was traveling southbound on Manchaca Road.
