Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed In South Austin
Mark Antonio Rodriguez, 37, was hit by car as he crossed East Riverside Drive, dying at hospital eight days after being struck.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police identified the pedestrian who was killed in a South Austin traffic accident earlier this month.
The incident that occurred just after 7 p.m. along the 7300 block of East Riverside Drive dates to Feb. 6. A preliminary police investigation shows that a yellow, 2013, Chrysler 300 was traveling eastbound on the roadway in the center lane when it struck a pedestrian crossing mid-block walking southbound across East Riverside Drive.
The pedestrian was identified as Mark Antonio Rodriguez, 37. He was rushed to South Austin Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries eight days later, on Feb. 14. Police, in their press advisory, did not indicate whether the motorist stayed at the scene or if he or she would face any charges as a result of the fatality.

In the meantime, police seek help from the public to investigate the case. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call police at (512) 974-5576. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
The deadly incident marked Austin’s eighth fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in nine fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were seven fatal traffic crashes and seven traffic fatalities, police noted.
