Police ID South Austin Pedestrian Struck, Killed In South Austin Alley By Fleeing Driver
Juan Tziquin-Guarcha, 31, was laying across an alley leading to South Congress when he was run over by unidentified driver.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the name of the pedestrian who was killed in a hit-and-run incident in South Austin last week.
According to a preliminary police investigation, a dark SUV was traveling eastbound on a paved alleyway leading from the south side of a business on Congress Avenue to the 3600 block of South Congress Avenue on Aug. 7 at around 12:35 a.m.
After entering the alley from a rear parking lot, the vehicle struck a pedestrian laying down in the alley. The driver of the SUV fled the scene after hitting the pedestrian, heading southbound on South Congress Avenue, and is still at large.

Police identified the victim as Juan Tziquin-Guarcha, who was 31 years old at the time of his death.

Police noted this incident marked Austin’s 39th fatal traffic crash and the 41st fatality of 2017. At this time in 2016, there were 39 fatal traffic crashes and 39 traffic fatalities, police added.
