Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed in South Austin By Unknown Hit-And-Run Driver

Sam Rhea Hollan, 56. was killed April 4 when he was struck by a car along the 700 block of East William Cannon Drive shortly after 9 p.m.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Austin police on Monday identified the pedestrian killed last week by a hit-and-run driver in South Austin.

Sam Rhea Hollan, 56. was killed on April 4 when he was struck by a car along the 700 block of East William Cannon Drive just after 9 p.m. Hollan was rushed to St. David's South Austin Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased after his arrival.

The motorist who struck Hollan fled the scene of the accident.

Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to call police. There are a couple of ways of alerting police to information they might find useful in their investigation: Through the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-8255 or by submitting tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

The incident marked Austin’s 19th fatal traffic crash of 2017, police noted. At this time in 2016, there were 16 fatal traffic crashes and 16 traffic fatalities, they added.
