Police ID Pedestrian Who Died Of Injuries After Being Hit By Car In South Austin

John Mark Anderson, 52, survived the initial impact but died of his injuries nearly a month after being hit along South Congress Avenue.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Wednesday identified the pedestrian who died from injuries after being hit by a car late November in South Austin.

John Mark Anderson, 52, was struck along the 4700 block of South Congress in the evening of Nov. 25. He was rushed for treatment after surviving the impact, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries at St. David's South Austin Medical Center on Dec. 24, police said.

According to their investigation, a silver 2004 Honda Odyssey was traveling southbound on South Congress Avenue in the inside lane at Sheraton Avenue. The car proceeded through the intersection at a green light while Anderson was crossing from east to west when he was hit.

Anderson's death represented the city's 77th fatal traffic crash and the 79th fatality of 2016. At the same point in 2015, there had been 102 traffic fatalities in Austin, police said.
