Police ID S. Austin Driver Killed In HIgh-Speed Crash Into Tree
Alexander Zangara White, 32, died two days after slamming into tree along 1200 block of West Oltorf Street while speeding, police say.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Monday identified the driver killed when his car slammed into a tree as he drove at a high rate of speed in South Austin in late October.
A preliminary police investigation shows that a red Mazda RX-8 was traveling eastbound along the 1200 block of West Oltorf Street with excessive speed on Oct. 28 just before 11 p.m. The driver lost control before hitting a tree along the south side of the street, police said.
The driver, Alexander Zangara White, 32, was rushed to St. David's South Austin Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries at 5:38 p.m. on Oct. 30.

Police continue to investigate the case, and urge anyone with information regarding this case to reach out to detectives by calling (512) 974-3761. Those wih information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
The incident marked Austin’s 62nd fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 63 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 55 fatal traffic crashes and 57 traffic fatalities, police added.
