Police ID Woman Killed In South Austin Wreck

Marissa Renae Rodriguez, 27, died after her car left the roadway early morning last Monday and struck a utility pole.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX Austin police on Thursday identified the woman killed in a traffic accident in South Austin last week.

According to a preliminary investigation, a blue 2004 Nissan Maxima was traveling westbound along the 700 block of West Stassney Lane on May 1 just before 3 a.m. when it left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a utility pole. The driver was transported to St. David's South Austin hospital for medical treatment but died later that morning.

Police identified the dead motorist as Marissa Renae Rodriguez, 27.

Police noted the case was still being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident that would be helpful to the police investigation are urged to call detectives at (512) 974-5576. The incident marked the 21st fatal traffic crash in Austin so far this year resulting in 22 fatalities, compared to 25 fatal traffic crashes and 26 traffic fatalities in last year's comparable period, police said.
