Police Make Arrest In Wednesday's South Austin Wells Fargo Bank Branch Robbery

Uchenna Chukwuma, 30, was arrested shortly after the incident when cops spotted him still nearby.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police on Friday announced an arrest made in connection to a Wells Fargo Bank branch that occurred earlier this week.

On Wednesday (Sept. 7), at about 10 a.m., a suspect entered the bank branch at 500 E. Ben White Blvd. and demanded money from a teller. No weapon was displayed, and no injuries were reported as result, police said.

Shortly after the heist, officers noticed a man near the bank who matched the suspect's description. Uchenna Chukwuma, 30, was arrested on the spot. Charges are pending.

Police noted their investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the robbery tip line at (512) 974-5092, Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS or text “Tip 103” + your message to CRIMES.

Those submitting tips that lead to charges being filed are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000, police said. Law enforcement officials noted the incident marks the 13th bank robbery in Austin so far this year.
