Police Officer Shoots Dog After South Austin Disturbance Call

After officers arrived to 2200 block of Town Lake Circle near East Riverside Drive, cop shot dog deemed to have acted aggressively.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — A police officer shot a dog Thursday morning amid a response to a reported disturbance in the southeast portion of the city, according to reports.

Police were alerted to the disturbance along the 2200 block of Town Lake Circle near East Riverside Drive just before 8 a.m., the Austin American-Statesman reported. Once at the scene, an officer shot a dog said to have been acting aggressively.

While the nature of the disturbance is unknown, police told the Statesman the incident will be logged as a "...firearm discharge against a dangerous or threatening animal" rather than an officer involved shooting given the subject's canine status.

The report indicates the dog survived the shooting, and was transported to a veterinary clinic for treatment of its injuries. The breed of the animal wasn't disclosed.
