Police Seek Driver In South Austin Hit-And-Run Death
The incident on South First Street and West Ben White Boulevard at around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning left a 41-year-old man dead.
SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police are searching fora suspect in a South Austin hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead on Wednesday.
The incident on South First Street and West Ben White Boulevard at around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning left a male pedestrian in his 40s dead, police told media outlets, including the Austin American-Statesman. Police said a white truck was at a red light in the right turn lane headed onto West Ben White Boulevard to South First Street. Instead of turning, the driver drove through the intersection and onto the sidewalk, fatally striking a man near a bus stop, according to reports.
The driver is said to have exited the vehicle to assess damage to his truck, talking with witnesses along the way, before driving off. The truck is believed to be a white 2005 GMC model, police told reporters. The driver is described as a man in his 50s with dark hair wearing a black shirt and khaki pants at the time of the incident.

Police released surveillance camera images of the truck and driver. Although the images are grainy, police hope someone might recognize the suspect and/or his vehicle and alert police as to his whereabouts. Police blurred out the image of a companion of the driver as she is not a person of interest, officials explained.
