Police Seek Suspect In South Austin Bank Robbery

The man wore what appeared to be a Texas Longhorns T-shirt atop his head like a head scarf in attempts to hide his identity.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police continue to search for a suspect accused of holding up a bank branch in South Austin on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at the American Bank of Commerce branch at 2201 W. Ben White Blvd. just before noon. The suspect displayed a weapon while demanding money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police believe the suspect may have discharged a round from a firearm as he fled, although there were no injuries reported.

The suspect fled in a four-door red Dodge regular cab pickup truck. He is described as five feet, eight inches tall weighing about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing black sunglasses, a long-sleeve khaki shirt, blue jeans and a burnt orange with white Longhorn garment over his head.

Police released still images from a bank surveillance camera in the hopes that someone might recognize the suspect and alert police as to his whereabouts.
