Updates: Saturday evening, the highly anticipated drawing for the Powerball jackpot took place. Because nobody drew the winning numbers in the previous draw on Wednesday, the jackpot has grown to about $360 million.

The winning numbers are 20-24-26-35-49 with a Powerball of 19.

Nobody matched the winning numbers during Saturday's draw, which means the next jackpot on Aug. 16 will be for at least $430 million or a cash payout of $273.4 million.

On person in Ponder, Texas, did match five numbers β€” a feat good for $2 million as the Power Play option was used. The winning ticket was sold at the Bev's store, 1003 N FM 156. Powerball officials added that the ticket was a quick pick, meaning the person buying it had the numbers churned out automatically by a machine rather then picking them out manually.

AUSTIN, TX β€” Nobody drew the winning Powerball jackpot numbers during Wednesday's drawing for the estimated $323 million prize. What this means is that the drawing on Saturday, Aug. 12, will be worth roughly $356 million, with a cash option of $224 million.

On Saturday evening, the highly anticipated drawing took place.

By any measure, that's a lot of moolah.

The Powerball Numbers (white) for Aug 9 were: 12-30-36-47-62. The Red Powerball Power Number: 9. The Power Play Number: 4.

While no grand prize winner(s) emerged, three players β€” including one in Texas β€” matched all five white numbers drawn for a cool $1 million. Such winning tickets also were sold in Iowa and Oregon, but were doubly close with no figurative cigar: None of those players played the "Power Play" option which would've boosted their winnings to $2 million.

It's like buying that warranty for your newly purchased appliances. You don't think you'll need it until you do, so you forego that extra fee. Sad! Still, $1 million is nothing to sneeze at, and is rather bigly in its own right.

According to Texas Lottery officials, a Houston man was among those matching all five white balls to secure $1 million. That winning ticket was sold at a food mart on Heights Boulevard.Phillip A. Pyle II of Houston claimed the second-tier Powerball prize worth $1 million.

It's our guess that Pyle has suddenly seen a surge in contacts from long-lost "cousins" and other prodigal relatives. Or maybe not, but it's not an implausible scenario given his newly acquired wealth.

Overall there were 1,597,975 winners in this week's drawing winning at least $4. In Michigan alone, there were 52,335 winners, according to lottery officials. In that state, one player matched four white balls and the Powerball while also picking the Power Play option (an empowered consumer, this person), winning $200,000 β€” making it the largest prize won in Michigan.

Prior to Wednesday's drawing, the jackpot had swelled from $307 million to $323 million because no winner emerged in the previous draw either. Powerball is offered in 44 States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Players select five white numbers from (1 to 69) and one red ball (1 to 26), with tickets costing $2 each.

So, you might be asking at this point, what are the luckiest stores in which to buy a winning ticket. Several enterprising media outlets have crunched the numbers to achieve a sampling.

In the state capital, according to Texas Lottery officials. Commission Data, John's Food Mart at 2238 East Ben White Blvd. in South Austin is among the Central Texas stores that have sold the most winning lottery tickets the past five years.

"We really do sell a lot of winning scratch offs," store co-owner Charles Chahda told KVUE. "I'll give you an example, today someone won $500. This is today," he said at the time of the interview.

The store co-owned by John Chahda has been around for 23 years, according to the report. Two big winning tickets were sold within six months of each other, one worth $40,000 and the other $50,000, he told the news station.

The HEB store off RM 620 and RM 2222 in Northwest Austin is another winning ticket hub, KVUE noted. Over the last five years, customers have purchased three big winning scratch-off tickets valued at $40,000. Those scratch-offs make up 75 percent of Texas lottery sales, according to officials.

It goes without saying, but the chances of actually winning the big jackpot are rather astronomical. In fact, they're rather infinitesimal, you might say. But, hey, you gotta be in it to win it, eh? There's no rhyme or reason to hitting the jackpot; some insist players must devise their own number combination to ensure success while others say choosing automatically generated numbers is the way to go to avoid duplicating others' numbers and having to split the wealth.

We here at Patch don't have the keys to Lotto success, sorry. But we're happy to offer the following instructional video from a guy who's won the lottery seven times and now acts as some sort of de facto teacher to other hopefuls.

We honestly don't know if the insight is useful. But we wish you good luck, nonetheless.
