San Antonio Sports awarded a $50,000 grant from the Aetna Foundation to help fund their iPlay! Program
Program encourages active living and healthy eating for San Antonio students
This fall, San Antonio Sports was awarded a $50,000 grant from the Aetna Foundation to help fund their iPlay! Program to help kids stay active and healthy throughout the school year.
The iPlay! program is an innovative afterschool sports program that teaches San Antonio students life lessons about active living, good nutrition and strong personal character.
During the 2014-2015 school year, iPlay! afterschool will serve 1,125 children in 45 elementary schools in the San Antonio and Harlandale school districts. Students will participate in five, 5-week sports development sessions (soccer, track, volleyball, tennis and golf). Each sport unit will culminate in a fun tournament where the kids can demonstrate their new skills and parents, family and friends can cheer them on.

The Aetna Foundation has awarded more than $3 million in community grants to 75 nonprofit organizations in 22 states to help healthy food choices and active living take root in underserved communities. Grant programs will increase access to fresh foods, create opportunities for nutrition education and promote exercise in local neighborhoods. This funding comes at a critical time when there is a great need to make healthy foods more available, accessible and affordable at the local level – community by community, block by block.
