SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Looking for something interesting (and free) before Easter Sunday? Something the kiddos might enjoy too? Jo’s coffee shop in South Austin is just the spot.

Jo’s 17th Annual Easter Pet Parade and Costume Contest is scheduled today (Saturday) from noon to 3 p..m. Best part: It’s a fundraiser for Austin Pets Alive.

Let’s get this out of the way up high in the story: The Easter Bunny will make an appearance.

Boom.

But if that weren’t enough of a draw, we have two words: Bouncy house.

For those harried parents looking for an outlet for their kids’ indefatigable energy, there will be a bouncy house on site -- with free entry for the children.

The bouncy house is not only fun for the younger set, but a sleep-inducing vehicle as children jump with abandon while having fun. Parents have long encouraged bouncy house fun knowing their kids will be so tired post-jumping and probably require long naps once home, much to the relief of parents...but we digress.

In addition to the bouncy house, there will be local vendors offering their many wares, face painters, cotton candy, live music from the Andrew Nafziger Trio.

If you’re still skeptical, still on the fence about going, here’s three words: Pets in costumes.

That was not a typo. There will be pets in costumes, which is the central attraction during the annual parade. As for the parade, it will be led by the Dead Music Capital Band and starts at noon. It can be seen all along South Congress or you could simply join the party afterwards at the parking lot of Jo’s Coffee, 1300 S. Congress Ave.

Festivities are scheduled from noon to 3 p.m.

Pets in costumes. Face painting. The Easter Bunny. Bouncy house. Pets in costumes (did we say that already?).
