Murder-Suicide in South Austin Home Under Investigation [UPDATE]

A man, woman, and golden retriever were found dead in a home in what may have been a murder-suicide.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX: Police have identified the man in an apparent murder-suicide that occurred in a South Austin home Sunday evening.

The incident took place at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the 200 block of Heartwood Drive, just north of Stassney Lane and west of South Congress, police said. The cause of the deaths may have been murder-suicide.

It was reported that Roy Keenan, 82, called 911 and said he had already killed his wife because of an illness she had. He also said he planned to kill himself. He told police where they would find their bodies in the house, police said in a press conference. Autopsies confirmed Keenan had died as a result of suicide. The female’s cause of death has not yet been identified.

Officers reportedly used their PA system to request the residents exit the home, but did not receive a response. They reportedly forced their way into the home and found the bodies of the couple and a golden retriever, KXAN reported.
