Suspicious Package Sparks Fear Among Austin Walmart Shoppers

A man leaving a bag unattended prompted a substantive police response only to learn the container held harmless clothing.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Walmart shoppers got a bit of a scare on Friday night — one of the year's biggest shopping days the day after Thanksgiving — when police descended to the scene to investigate a suspicious package.

The unattended bag reported to police at around 6:30 p.m. caused the lockdown of the Walmart at 13201 Ranch Road near U.S. 183 and FM 620, just off Lake Creek Parkway. Specialized police units descended to the scene to investigate the bag and assess the level of threat it posed.

In the end, police gave the all-clear after determining the bag was filled with benign clothing.
