Teen Arrested On Suspicion Of Multiple Store Break-Ins

Police continue their search for a second suspect.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police arrested a teenager suspected in a string of break-ins at Austin-area mobile phone stores on Friday.

The 15-year-old male is accused of burglarizing several stores around Austin, including locations at William Cannon Drive, Slaughter Lane, Westgate, SH 71, Brodie and S. Interstate-35, reports KEYE-TV.

Police say up to nine stores were broken into, with cell phones and cash taken from each location. Police started getting calls early Friday morning about a series of burglaries centered in South Austin, according to reports.

Police say a pellet gun was used to gain entry into the stores.

Surveillance video from the stores was used to track down the suspect, who police later spotted in South Austin. The suspect gave chase in a gray Chevrolet Silverado later found to have been stolen.

The high-speed police chase that ensued started in South Austin heading north, and ended on Guadalupe Street near the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Police were able to apprehend the teen, who now faces several charges, including burglary, evading arrest and possession in a stolen vehicle.

Law enforcement said a search for the suspect’s accomplice is ongoing.
