Texas Department Of Transportation Plan Open House On I35 Improvements

AUSTIN, TX — Texas Department of Transportation officials will stage an open house this coming Thursday enabling residents to learn more about planned improvements to Interstate 35.

The planned enhancements to the artery run the length of ten miles, between Riverside Drive and SH 45 SE. Details on design improvement, transit access accommodations at Slaughter Lane, widened bridges, added lanes and bike and pedestrian enhancements will be detailed during the course of the meeting.

A main component of the $300 million to $350 million project calls for an express lane added in each direction of the roadway. Other information to be provided includes:

• Design updates to the variable toll express lane entrance and exit ramps near Riverside Drive;

• Direct transit access accommodations at Slaughter Lane and SH 45SE;

• Location and design of the entrance and exit ramps along the project’s 10 miles;

• Additional proposed project improvements, including widened bridges, added lanes, and bicycle and pedestrian enhancements.

"Two alternatives are being considered, including a build alternative consisting of express lanes with direct transit accommodation, and a no-build, or do nothing, alternative," TxDot officials said in a prepared statement.

Participants will be able to review project materials, ask questions, and submit comments. Attendees are invited to come-and-go at their convenience, officials added.

The open house is scheduled to occur at Atkins High School, 10701 South First Street, beginning at 5 p.m. Those unable to attend the meeting in-person can offer input online at a virtual open house that will be available January 12-26 atwww.mobility35openhouse.com.
