2 Shot Dead In South Travis County Murder/Suicide IDed (Updates)

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Travis County Sheriff's Office on Saturday identified the two people shot dead the previous night in the southeast portion of Travis County.

Sheriff's deputies reported to the 12000 block of Von Quintus Road at around 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, after receiving a call about a man on the ground with obvious trauma to his body. Upon their arrival, deputies found two people dead, a man and a woman, outside a home.

Both victims had gunshot wounds, the man found dead on the ground and the woman in the driver's side of the vehicle. A sheriff's office spokesperson said in a press advisory that a pistol was discovered setting next to the dead man.

The deceased man was identified as Omar Garcia, 26, of Del Valle. The woman was identified as Nancy Garcia, 23, also of Del Valle.

"While the decedents share the same last name, they are not married," Kristin Dark, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, said in a prepared statement. She added that the two had been in a relationship, and the man had recently been arrested on a charge of Assault/Family Violence after being accused of having attacked the woman now dead.

Both were found outside an apartment complex where they both lived, Dark said. Evidence at the scene points to a murder/suicide carried out by the man identified in the incident.

Media reports in the aftermath of the murder/suicide emerged pointing to the proximity of another recent suspicious death in a nearby grassy field, that of Austin resident Johnny Cardenas, 31, whose body was found July 11 along the the 9800 block of Blocker Lane. But Dark on Saturday said there appears to be no connection between the murder/suicide this weekend and the discovery of Cardenas's body.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Two bodies have been found in South Austin, Travis County Sheriff's Office officials said Friday morning.

The discovery was made along the 12000 block of Von Quintus in the southwest portion of the county.

No further details have been made available, but sheriff's officials have scheduled a press briefing for later today. Patch will share more information after officials amplify the issue sometime Friday.
