Upcoming 'Coffee With A Cop' Gathering Will Feature Free Gun Safety Locks
Thursday's morning gathering is in partnership with Project ChildSafe, a national organization promoting gun safety in the home.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Residents are invited to have "Coffee with a Cop" on Thursday at the namesake gathering, during which firearm safety tips will be discussed and free gun locks will be provided.
The regular gathering enables residents to engage in a conversation with police in an effort to build ties with the community in a casual, accessible setting. The upcoming session is in partnership between Region IV and Project ChildSafe, and is aimed at providing free firearm safety kits, including cable-style gun locks. During the event, two free gun locks per person will be provided, organizers said.
The "Coffee With a Cop" gathering is scheduled March 2 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the McDonald's restaurant located at 2114 W. Slaughter Lane.

Project ChildSafe bills itself as the largest, most comprehensive firearm safety education program in the U.S. It was developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms industry, and is committed to promoting genuine firearm safety through the distribution of safety education messages and free firearm Safety Kits. The kits include a cable-style gun-locking device and a brochure (also available in Spanish) that discusses safe handling and secure storage guidelines to help deter access by unauthorized individuals.
Project ChildSafe has at its goal the idea of making communities safer. Since 1999, more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies have partnered with the program to distribute more than 37 million firearm safety kits to gun owners in all 50 states and five U.S. territories.
