Walmart Worker In South Austin Busted For Alleged Theft Of Nearly $17K From Store

Jasmine Alexander, 19, is accused of loading gift cards with cash for four acquaintances while she worked as cashier.

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — A worker at a South Austin Walmart store recently was arrested for stealing nearly $17,000 from the retailer, according to a published report.

Jasmine Alexander, 19, is accused of loading Visa gift cards with money at the cash register while working at the store, the Austin American-Statesman reported based on an arrest affidavit. Alexander worked at the Walmart store at 9300 South Interstate 35, close to Slaughter Lane.

According to police, the woman loaded several gift cards with amounts ranging from $1,000-$2,500 range. The surreptitious card loading occurred during a three month span from August to October, the newspaper reported.

A loss prevention officer at the store reported the theft after studying security camera footage showing the woman loading up Visa gift cards with cash and then printing out receipts of the transactions, the Statesman reported.

Alexander is said to have admitted loading the cards for four people. She was booked into the Travis County Jail with bail set at $10,000, but has since bonded out.
