Houston Man Charged In Christmas Day Street Racing Fatality

Devante Franklin is charged with two counts of racing resulting in a death and one count of racing resulting in serious bodily injury.

SPRING, TX β€” The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against a 25-year old man who was involved in a street race that killed two people, and injured two others on Christmas Day.

Devante Franklin was arrested on Sunday and is charged with two counts of racing resulting in a death and one count of racing resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin and Kevin Strong were driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed on State Highway 249 near Hollister Road on Christmas morning, when they both plowed into an SUV driven by 62-year old Johnny Patterson.

The crash killed Patterson and Strong, and injured another person after one of the cars that hit Patterson continued into oncoming traffic and hit their vehicle.

Franklin was not injured in the crash.

If he is convicted, he faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
