Klein Independent School District: Dollar General Awards Klein ISD $3,000 Literacy Grant

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded Benignus Elementary Librarian Leane Krause a $3,000 grant to support the Klein ISD Reading Express. 

This grant is part of Dollar General’s initiative to support summer, family, and adult literacy programs nationwide.

“This grant allows us to add high-interest books for our students,” said Krause. “We’re able to update the current collection and add titles that appeal to students across our entire district! In addition, the Reading Express promotes literacy through book checkout, read alouds, and activities over the summer all in a mobile format.”

The Reading Express allows students to engage with librarians to combat the ‘summer slide,’ or regression from the previous school year. This book-filled traveling bus is part of a free and convenient program available to everyone in the Klein community.

We are so proud of Ms. Krause for receiving this grant and incredibly excited to see our students build their love of reading!
